The reason that we sponsor this project with OptiBird is that we as parrot-lovers have to get together to make further research and testing for this dreadful disease possible.

Now we know the virus as the cause of PDD, we can  take a look into very interesting follow-up studies on the distribution and transfer of this virus. Many questions arise like: why is the partner of a PDD bird negative; why do birds a few flights away die of PDD? Is the virus is also transmitted through eggs; what is the role of pests, etc.?

To get better insight into the epidemiology a foundation has been created with the name “PDD RESEARCH FUND”.  The aim is to raise funds through private contributions, donations and actions of parrot-owners and -breeders like you and us. In this way we are able to fund further research, because there are no national or European funds available yet.

If we would like to have the opportunity to enjoy our collections of psittacines for many years still, than we need to act NOW unanimously and make money available for this funding.
